A fantastic SIRF Senior Leaders dinner earlier this month with 30 leaders from 24 organisations . Linda Davis (ex Cerebos, now Head of Transformation at Goodman Fielder NZ) gave a fabulous presentation on Innovation.

Linda spoke on her experience gained within a number of large organisations, their cultural environments and her personal observations along the way. Why some organisations stall, why others power ahead, what factors nurture or crush an innovative environment.

One key take way was “Innovation happens where people feel safe”. People are free to speak their mind, be respected, listened to and trusted. Safe also by the knowledge that the organisation is strong, has a clear and communicated sense of purpose and future. This then results in high discretionary effort being the norm, and a culture of innovation being the result.
